Association of Women In Insurance
Who Are We?
The Association of Women in Insurance was started over 2 decades ago with the aim of creating opportunities, gaining knowledge and networking for women within the insurance sector.
Charity is at the Heart of the AWII According to Vanessa Husband (Founding Member)
“After discussing this with some like-minded ladies, who agreed that networking was an important part of gaining knowledge of our industry, we had a first coffee date together and a core group of five decided to go ahead and form a Cape Town branch of EWII. Ann Booth, Val Deuchar, Lorna Rayment and Stephanie Vogler formed a committee, with myself as Chairperson. It was decided that the association would not only be for the short-term industry, but for life as well.”
“During this time, it was agreed that the word ‘Executive’ in our name was not really apt, as we had included members from all areas of the industry. Thus, the ‘Association of Women in Insurance’ became the new title. Over the years, the association has grown and evolved. I am very proud that I was instrumental in introducing a vehicle to Cape Town for the women in our industry to meet.”
As the organisation grew, it was felt that there was a need for the women in our industry to also make a contribution towards alleviating the suffering of women and children in the society around us. We host approximately four functions per annum that create a platform to collect funds to be distributed to various charities involved in the caring and/or housing of abused and/or homeless women and children.
We are a non-profit organisation consisting of approximately 150 professional women who work in the insurance and assurance industry in the Cape.

The AWII is making a difference, one fundraiser at a time.
Our functions provide excellent networking opportunities for ladies working in the insurance sector but also provide the means to fundraise to assist and help our charities with much needed financial assistance to help empower other women and children in need.
